My Love of Learning
As breifly mentioned in Meet Karyn, in 1989 I became a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and in 1990 I received my Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami, Florida. I have been practicing in the field of pediatrics since graduation. I began treating my patients with an NDT (neurodevelopmental techniques) approach and became NDT certified in 1995. I was introduced to Sensory Integration early in my career and started incorporating some of these techniques. I found I could get better results when I combined the techniques, thus leading me towards a whole body treatment approach. I became SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests) certified in 1997 and began specializing in children with autism or sensory processing disorders. I became trained in the Alert Program for Self–Regulation, Sensory Defensiveness (Brushing Program), Therapeutic Listening and CranioSacral Therapy (CST).
In 2005 I opened my private practice, The Body Network, where I specialize in treating infants and pregnant families. At this same time I began working in a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I worked in the NICU for over 9 years, where I became certified as a Neonatal Developmental Care Specialist by NANN, received the Neonatal Touch and Massage Certification, and became both Techniques and Diplomate certified in CranioSacral Therapy.
